I am a little disappointed because it is a daguerreotype photograph of the original daguerreotype but it tells a story. A sad one. The woman died in childbirth in September 1850. I presumes duplicates were made for a memoriam. The baby, William, lived and helped his father with farming, barrel making (staves and headngs), and local politics in the Kalamazoo, Michigan area. I think he looks like the Gerber baby in this pose. Later in life, he was bequeathed a generous sum from a cousin who had married Aaron Montgomery Ward of the Chicago based catalog and general store of the same name.
